LAKE PLACID | The statue of 1980 United States Olympic hockey coach Herb Brooks will be unveiled Saturday night, Jan.31 at 6 p.m. (Eastern Time) in the Lake Placid Olympic Center. Members of the Brooks family and defenseman Jack O’Callahan will be in attendance for this event.

The event, to be held in the Miracle Plaza outside the Olympic Museum, will be live-streamed at https://bit.ly/HBS-unveiling-livestream.

The Herb Brooks statue was created due to the generosity of Stanley Rumbough, a longtime participant in the Miracle on Ice Fantasy Camp that’s held in Lake Placid each spring. Additional financial support was provided by the Uihlein Foundation of Lake Placid, recalling the initiatives of Henry Uihlein, whose vision brought the 1932 Olympic Winter Games here and led to Lake Placid’s second Games in 1980.

“This unveiling of the Herb Brooks statue is symbolic of so many achievements in Lake Placid,” said John Morgan, whose JFM Sports was the genesis behind this event. “What Herb and his team did for a nation at that time, and for Lake Placid going forward, can never be underestimated. We hope to make the entire region happy on Saturday night.”

Speakers will include Herb’s children Dan and Kelly as well as O’Callahan. Attendees are encouraged to emulate the attire of Brooks who preferred the tan and plaid colors of that era.

The unveiling is one of numerous tributes to the 1980 Olympic hockey champions who defeated the Soviet Union in the famous Miracle on Ice, followed by the gold medal triumph against Finland two days later.
Earlier in January, Michelob Ultra and Pretty Damn Sweet presented Run Back the Miracle in Lake Placid, which used state-of-the-art technology, game footage and holograms in the Herb Brooks Arena. On Jan. 30, the Netflix documentary Miracle: The Boys of ’80 will make its national debut. Finally, a 30-minute special on Feb. 3, derived from Run Back the Miracle, will air on Peacock just a few days prior to the 2026 Opening Ceremony in Milano/Cortina.
